Conference Presentation from Late 2012

CES 2014
Sony Press Event Speech
DRAFT 1-3-14

Pre-show: Roll video on horizon.
VOG: Intro for Kaz Hirai

Hirai: Kaz:  Good afternoon everyone and welcome to our CES 2014 press conference. I thank you for joining us here today. And to everyone watching via our livestream, I’d like to extend a warm welcome as well. All of you here and online can participate in the conversation on Twitter using our hashtag #SonyCES.

The video you just saw represents some of our major milestones for the year. I’m not saying it was easy. In one short year, the consumer electronics landscape changed dramatically. Markets shrank, changed and some all but disappeared and, at the same time, we found new opportunities to create markets or expand existing ones. Hopefully, along the way, we surprised and delighted you with our spirit of innovation, design and outright temerity to challenge what has always been…

For the past three years, my friend and colleague Phil Molyneux was here with me on stage to help present our latest creations to you.  As you know, he is moving on to become non-executive chairman of Sony Electronics, and I just want to take this opportunity to thank him for his service and many contributions to Sony, not only since 2010, but going back to 1987, when he joined us in Europe.

I also have the pleasure of introducing to you the man who is succeeding Phil as President and Chief Operating Officer of Sony Electronics. I’ve known him for quite a long time, and many of you also know him well from his own long record of accomplishments at Sony. He’s been with Sony for about 30 years, most recently leading the sales and operations of our consumer  business. His strong background in sales and marketing will serve him well as SEL puts a renewed focus on customer relations to drive expansion of our U.S. business.  The industry continues to be challenged by economic conditions in the U.S. as it is elsewhere in the world, but I am confident that he will build on the progress we’ve made thus far and make SEL’s future even brighter than its illustrious past.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's my pleasure to introduce Mike Faulo. [Fasulo enters, shakes hands with Kaz.].

Fasulo: Thanks, Kaz. It’s an honor to be here. And good evening to all of you.
(Pause)

Under the leadership of Kaz Hirai and the One Sony ethos, we promised to bring you the essence of Sony -- our technology and the emotion; the excitement that only Sony can evoke. And today I am thrilled to once again deliver on that promise by introducing many more exciting products and technologies.

In 2009, Kaz laid out his vision of the user experience that Sony would bring to consumers and summarized it in eight words: Play, Listen, Watch, Learn, Discover, Communicate, Create and Share. At CES 2013, as we focused on our dazzling new 4K displays, the theme was “Watch.” And at IFA this fall, the  keyword was “Create.” This year is all about “Play.”

By our definition, Play can mean anything from playing games, to playing music, watching or participating in sports, to hitting “play” on your favorite device – above all, it means fun. Whether you are diving into the imaginary world of a new PS4 game, listening to the nuances of your favorite music as if you’re hearing it for the very first time, cheering on your home team from the comfort of your living room or recording your next radical feat on the half pipe, our products are designed to be there with you, adding to and enhancing the pleasure of activities you already love.

Speaking of love, I can’t stop talking about 4K. Whether it’s at industry events or to colleagues,  to my friends and family and, above all, to consumers, I tell everyone it’s like looking out of a window. Seeing is believing and the thrill I get seeing someone experiencing 4K for the very first time never gets old.. And at Sony we are constantly adding new experiences for consumers and professionals to get excited about. Let me explain.

(Pause)

We’ve made steady progress in bringing to market a variety of 4K devices, including televisions, cameras, camcorders, home cinema projectors and so on but, as we all know, content is king. Well, we’ve made significant advances there as well. As you know, only Sony delivers the total professional and consumer 4K experience from scene to screen and more. From our professional 4K cameras to our cinema projectors, Sony has been and continues to be at the forefront of original 4K content creation. We were also the first to deliver native 4K content directly to your home.

Last year on this stage, we promised to deliver a native 4K download service and, by summer 2013, we did just that. Today, the world’s first and only in-home 4K video download service, Video Unlimited 4K, gives you a regularly updated library of more than 140 titles including full length movies, television programs and short subjects, all in beautiful 4K Ultra High Definition, from Sony Pictures Entertainment and other notable studios. This includes theatrical releases such as ElysiumThe Amazing Spider-man, and also the full catalog of our hit TV show Breaking Bad -- every breathtaking vista and gritty detail that helped to tell what is arguably TV’s best story, is all available for the first time in stunning 4K. This was a true collaboration and demonstration of the breadth of Sony’s entertainment offerings, including our exquisite television technology, Sony Pictures’ 4K recording and mastering technologies and the powerful Sony Entertainment Network.

But we also know consumers want choices – we’d be remiss to offer only one content option. That’s why we’ve been working tirelessly to secure partners to expand the world of 4K entertainment even further. These include 500px for photos, YouTube and more.

500px is a worldwide, premier photo community and new 4K BRAVIA TVs will have access to that community so consumers will be able to enjoy high-quality 4K photos from around the world easily through their TVs. And we have just begun to collaborate with YouTube on a new Internet video decoder. With this decoder, dubbed VP9, built into our new BRAVIA TVs, you’ll be able to stream 4K directly to the TV starting next year.

And today, I am excited to announce that our relationship with one of the undisputed leaders in the content delivery space has taken a giant leap forward. Please welcome the CEO of Netflix Mr. Reed Hastings. [Hastings enters]

Discussion between Fasulo and Hastings to include the following points:

Mike to lead conversation and focus on three suggested questions:
·         What kind of 4K content can we expect to see from Netflix?
Starting in the first half of 2014, we will bring hit drama content in 4K to our service. This will begin with the Netflix original “House of Cards” and followed by Sony’s “Breaking bad”(TBC)
·         What kind of bandwidth will consumers need to enjoy this content?
Not a great experience over DSL but over cable or fiber, the experience is great. You need about 12-15 mbps.
·         We’ve all experienced the delay of buffering. What’s the movie watching experience like?
Playback on a Sony BRAVIA is the fastest we’ve seen. Just select your content and watch right away.
·         By combining the strengths of the Sony Group, with its incredible technology and content, with wide customer base of Netflix, we can deliver a premier 4K experience to the home

Fasulo: Thanks, Reed. [Hastings exits]

(Pause)

The creation of new 4K content is on the rise which means there will be even more content for you to enjoy in native 4K now and going forward.

We recently worked with ESPN to capture some exciting footage at the X Games in Los Angeles.  And in September, Sony F55s shot the world’s first fashion runway show in 4K for Tory Burch. The same cameras were at the World Series, using the power of 4K technology to give viewers at home more detailed high definition replays.

But of course, entertainment content is still at the heart of what we do. Just a short list of recent movies shot with Sony 4K cameras includes OblivionAfter EarthSmurfs 2, and Evil Dead, with upcoming 2014 projects ranging from Spike Lee’s newest movie Da Sweet Blood of Jesus to AnnieThink Like a Man Too and About Last Night.

On TV, our F55 cameras are now being used by Hulu to produce an original 4K series, and Sony’s Crackle platform is shooting all of its shows on 4K cameras. The cameras are also on the set of popular new shows like Trophy WifeThe Michael J. Fox Show and one of the hottest new shows on TV right now, The Blacklist produced by Sony

As you can see, 4K content exists and more is in the works, but what about production and distribution? That seems to be the Holy Grail of mass adoption. Well there is news to report on that front as well…

Sony is the first and still the only manufacturer to provide an end-to-end 4K live production infrastructure, including the camera, server and projection system. Now what that means is you’ll be seeing many more events using this technology in the near future to bring to the home a much more immersive experience than you’re seeing now. This live production system will expand the capabilities of delivering 4K content from the lens to the living room.

Broadcasters and production companies are successfully testing 4K delivery and distribution, not only to produce a better resolution HD image now, but to create more efficient 4K distribution in the future.

And we’re not talking about this as a science project 10 years in the future. This is all happening now, and chances are you’ve already seen some examples of our 4K live efforts – The Confederations Cup, Wimbledon Tennis, movies, TV shows, concerts and many more. And this year the FIFA World Cup Final will be shot in 4K. And 4K also has the potential to bring new ways of enjoying sports to audiences. For instance at this year’s CES, we have two 4K projectors blended, to give a full soccer field image. Please see it for yourself starting tomorrow, it’s like having an entire stadium right inside our booth.

So with the 4K production and distribution pieces rapidly coming together, as the market demand continues to grow, Sony is ready now to provide end-to-end 4K.

(Pause)

So we’ve discussed professionally created 4K content… What about the other end of the spectrum – the content you create? This past year we put the power of 4K creation squarely in your hands with our consumer 4K Handycam. Combined with a suite of products such as our expansive range of VAIO PCs and Vegas Pro editing software, we created a powerful package for easily creating your own 4K masterpiece.

Of course, we realized our flagship 4K Handycam was not exactly within reach of all aspiring 4K auteurs but this year’s model changes all that. I’m pleased to introduce our new 4K Handycam. Take a look at how small and light it is compared to our current model. Now, this is the camcorder you can consider not just for your film festival creation but one that would not be out of place at a wedding, recital or on your next vacation. And it’s packed with impressive technology to ensure whatever you shoot is captured in the clarity you would expect from Sony 4K.

Its back-illuminated 1-inch CMOS image sensor and BIONZ X image processor deliver stunning picture quality and performance even in low light, while its large diameter ZEISS lens is optimized for movie shooting. Wi-Fi and NFC allow you to quickly and easily connect to other devices such as smart phones and tablets. And you’re not limited to just 4K, it can down convert in the camera and play back Super-sampled HD in a quality much higher than that of conventional HD footage. Smaller, more convenient, yet fully functional 4K – all in a body that can be easily operated with one hand -- but the real showstopper is the price. It’s about $2,000 or as we like to say: 4K for 2K.

(Pause)

Let’s not forget that still images 8MP and above are 4K as well and Sony has been taking the digital imaging world by storm. First, with our QX line of lens-style cameras, we addressed the growing leagues of mobile photographers by combining high end imaging capabilities with the connectivity of their smartphones. We continue to update and improve these products to meet our customers’ needs. You can expect to see further updates this Spring, including full HD movie shooting and faster Wi-Fi connections.

And with our Alpha 7/Alpha 7R cameras – what I’ve dubbed the dynamic duo – we’ve done something only an imaging company that has been digital from day one can do. We made an audacious leap in technology to create a functionality and size never before dreamed of in a full-frame, mirrorless camera – one that is approximately half the size and weight of a conventional DSLR.

With these tremendous strides, we’ve attracted the notice of industry experts and professional photographers who’ve abandoned their bulky rigs for our lighter, sleeker options. And with the ability to use lens adapters, photographers can be assured that their investment in any manufacturer’s glass continues to pay off.

To tell you more, please welcome Pulitzer Prize winning photographer and Sony Artisan of Imagery Brian Smith. [Smith enters]

Conversation with Brian should include some of the following points:
·       For the past 30 years, Brian Smith’s iconic portraits of famous celebrities, athletes and executives have been used in advertising, by corporations and have graced the covers and pages of hundreds of magazines including Sports Illustrated, ESPN the Magazine, Time, Forbes, New York Times Magazine and more.
·       Smith won the Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography for his photographs of the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
·       He was again a finalist for the Pulitzer for his photographs of Haiti in Turmoil.
·       He was among the very first photographers to receive the Alpha7 and Alpha7R and he immediately put them through their paces in Haiti.
·       He’s sharing some of those photos with us today.
·       Smith to talk about his experience with Sony alpha and what the breakthroughs we’ve made mean to him as a pro shooter.

Fasulo: Thank you, Brian.

To continue the tradition of DI innovation, allow me to introduce the newest addition to our alpha line, the Alpha 5000. All the power you’ve come to expect in an even smaller package. Sensing a theme here? Heir to the NEX 5 and 3 lines, this is the world’s lightest APSC interchangeable lens camera. You get superb image quality and like other models in the line it is both Wi-Fi and NFC capable. Perfect for photo enthusiasts looking for something smaller than their cumbersome DSLR as well as for point-and-shoot photographers looking to step up their game, this new mirrorless camera has something for everyone.

And our PlayMemories Camera Apps enhance your photo experience even further with a growing range of free and paid apps, spanning exciting new creative effects, utilities and more.

(Pause)

So, we’ve spoken about content – capturing it, creating it and accessing it. What about watching it? How can you enjoy all of this beautiful 4K imagery? You didn’t think our discussion of 4K wouldn’t include new TVs, did you? Of course you can enjoy 4K images – native or upscaled --directly on one of our existing 4K UHD BRAVIA televisions and now we have even more for you to choose from.

Feast your eyes on what we are calling the reference standard for 4K. In addition to TRILUMINOS Display and 4K X-Reality Pro, our flagship, X950B series TV features Xtended Dynamic Range Pro technology to deliver superb picture quality. Its unique backlighting algorithm can achieve a much wider dynamic range of brightness with higher peaks and deeper blacks. In 65-inches and our largest display of the line – 85-inches, these televisions are eye-catching no matter what you are viewing. [Unveil 85” TV]

(Pause)

Joining the 4K Ultra HD BRAVIA range is the X900B Series. This series of TVs is sure to please the most discerning viewer with features that enhance the home theater experience. And just look at the iconic wedge design to improve performance housing larger speakers for rich, enveloping sound. [Unveil 79” TV]

Beautiful, aren’t they? And there’s more.

All 2014 4K BRAVIA TVs come with Sony’s own 4K 60p HEVC hardware decoder built in, which will enable you to enjoy various new forms of 4K content, which I touched on earlier. We are also working on the next generation 4K Media player which features an XAVC-S decoder to allow you to store video from our 4K Handycam and play it back on compatible 4K BRAVIA TVs. And our new PlayMemories application for BRAVIA, available now in the US and expanding to another 27 regions, allows you to instantly enjoy your 4K photos in all their glory on your BRAVIA screen.

That’s our world of 4K – content and hardware – whether you are capturing your own with any of our devices or watching professionally created entertainment all on the very highest achievable quality and detail. You see, at Sony we do not believe in the phrase “just good enough.” In a world where quality is sometimes sacrificed for convenience or accessibility, we go above and beyond. And with Sony 4K Ultra HD we allow you to see the details – but we also want you to hear them. Let’s talk about playing music.

(Pause)

Hi-Res Audio offers much more information and higher fidelity than traditional CDs - delivering sound the way artists meant it to be heard. With the advent of MP3, there was a significant loss of sound quality.  Now Sony - along with other leading companies -- is introducing a variety of products that deliver the benefits of hi-res audio to a much broader audience.

It's a whole new approach that makes digital music more compatible and convenient.  And it's all supported by hundreds of compelling recordings, from such iconic artists as Sting, Herbie Hancock, and John Mayer.  There's also exciting new acts such as A Great Big World, who appeal to a new generation of music enthusiasts.

In fact, they just completed a new hi-res recording with Christina Aguilera that features their hit song “Say Something.”

[Roll 30-seconf clip of the recording session]

Sony has always been at the forefront of audio innovation and only Sony can bring a wide array of products from home to portable.  Each of these are packed with unique technology such as our S-Master HX digital amplifier which faithfully reproduces every detail of the audio spectrum.  And our Digital Sound Enhancement Engine can recreate sound that was lost during the encoding process, so even highly compressed music files can be played back in the highest possible quality.
During CES, we're further expanding our High-Res Audio product line-up, including new compatible A/V receivers; PC peripherals; Blu-ray home theater systems; and portable devices, as well as hi-res capable speakers and headphones.  All of these are designed to match the lifestyle needs of listeners everywhere (Show products onscreen)
 (Pause)

So far, you’ve seen how we bring the best of our technologies together to deliver unsurpassed experiences in sight and sound. Let’s explore our other senses. How about your sense of adventure? Let’s talk about play in the truest, most active sense of the word.

When you’re watching your favorite team play on TV, do you ever feel like you want to turn off the chatter of the announcers and just immerse yourself in the ambient sound of the game? Well, with our new BRAVIA TVs you can. While preparing for the World Cup in Brazil, our engineers discovered that this desire was universal. So, we added a dedicated “football button” the the remote control. Just hit it to mute the commentary without losing the sounds of the players or the crowd. Here’s  how it works: [roll video]

Of course, we realize that you don’t spend all your time in front of your home entertainment system, I certainly don’t, so we’ve also designed products for all aspects of your life and for all different lifestyles, including the most extreme.

The Walkman W series has been making waves with the aquatic set for a while now. Swimming used to be a relatively silent pursuit. That was until the Walkman W allowed you to set your laps to music. The self-contained player/headset is fully waterproof and is perfect for pumping up you workout. Olympic marathoner Meb Keflezighi used the Walkman to inspire his runs and NY Marathon win, and with our content transfer software was able to drag and drop his favorite tunes directly to the device. No time to charge? With just three minutes of charge time, the device can run for 60 minutes – enough to squeeze in a few miles. And if the earbuds get dirty in between wearings, just rinse and run!

And for more exhilarating adventures, there’s our latest Action Cam. We’ve incorporated our BIONZ X image processing engine for the first time to infuse vibrant realism in every scene, while maintaining its compact body size. With an all-new lens and image sensor perfect for capturing dramatic slow motion video, and the ability to shoot in broadcast quality full HD, I can assure you that your epic Action Cam videos will be the envy of all your friends. The camera is also splash proof and water resistant with no need for a separate housing.

With an assortment of bike, board, helmet and other mounts you can capture a race for your life or a Sunday stroll. There’s even a dog mount accessory to capture footage from your pet’s point of view. And new this year, you can control up to five Action Cams with our Live-View Remote and record simultaneously with them all for a multi-view feature that gives your viewers the feeling of being part of the action. With a new application, available shortly, you can also use our SmartWatch2 as a remote control for Action Cam.

Action Cam can capture your adventures virtually anywhere—land, sea or sky - but what if you want your entertainment to be available to you wherever you go? We’ve got you covered.

For players who truly want to get into the game, our Head Mounted Display 3D viewer provides the most immersive movie and gaming experience possible and our latest version, recently announced, is fully portable. The new design lets you have a theater-like movie or gaming experience just about anywhere, with a virtual 750-inch screen. Perfect for small spaces where a large screen TV just isn’t feasible, the Head Mounted Display is a theater on your head. And now, our new prototype Head Tracker technology senses your head movement. So, when you’re watching your wide-angle Action Cam footage you can take in different parts of the scene with a simple turn of the head – just as if you were there.

And now to the courts... We have a unique demonstration on the show floor that may improve your game. Tennis Sensor is a lightweight device that attaches to your tennis racket, analyzes your play and sends the data instantly to your smartphone. It can log your shot count, impact point on the racket, swing speed, ball speed and more. You can also sync your stats to video you take on your smartphone to analyze your serve.

This nexus between sensors and mobile devices opens up a whole new world of user experiences and it’s in the area of mobile devices where we’re really changing the rules of the game. Last year was a big year for Sony’s mobile business, and in 2014 we’re bringing even more excitement and innovation to the mobile space which will be covered now by my good friend… Kunimasa Suzuki.

Please welcome Sony EVP and President and CEO of Sony Mobile Communications, Kuni Suzuki. Kuni?

[Suzuki comes on stage, shakes hands with Fasulo. Mike exits stage]

Suzuki: Thank you, Mike. And hello everyone, it’s good to be here. Now, I know you expect me to talk about smarphones. And I will...but before I do, I have something to show you. Something that will be a big part of our future. Here is a small taste of what we have in mind.

Video: SmartWear UX

What you just saw was a snapshot of our vision of the future of wearables...and of Sony’s SmartWear experience.

Sony’s Smartwear experience is about emotion...as well as motion. Information...and entertainment. What you do...and how you feel. It’s about moving, and most importantly...being moved.
Sony’s SmartWear experience consists of...our upcoming range of smartwear products, our Xperia smartphones, and the Lifelog application you saw in the video. We are pioneering a new path. One that will empower you to log and visualize your daily lives...in a fun, entertaining, and social way. It will allow you to discover your past...enjoy your present...and inspire your future.

Sony has introduced the world to many new ways of enjoying the world around them. Walkman...Cyber-shot...Handycam...PlayStation...Xperia. And now, we will do the same with wearable entertainment. In 2014, we will deliver new and exciting wearable gadgets and experiences that will make our daily lives more fun.

Starting with this. (Point to Core slide)

This could be the tiniest gadget we have ever made. But, it is at the heart of one of our biggest visions.

We call this the SmartCore. And through the Lifelog application, this tiny device will capture and analyze many aspects of your life. And then provide you with the information you need to explore and enjoy the world around you.

SmartCore can be worn in countless different ways. For example, the SmartBand, available this spring, is just the first way you can wear it. (Insert module in bracelet). Let’s take a look.

Video: A1

Now, we are Sony...so of course, we are going to do things a little differently. First...we are not just about motion, but emotion. Focusing on your communication and entertainment to make sure you are moved emotionally.

Second...we are not just logging your present, but will take what we know to inspire your future with ideas and recommendations.

Third...we are developing new innovation, with our network of developers and creators, in a spirit of open partnership.

And fourth…we are working with partners on the hardware side as well. To make sure we build a series of compelling, exciting, and fashionable products. All driven by applications and services that will bring our vision to life.

I know my talk today was a bit conceptual. But, I look forward to bringing you more details very soon. So please stay tuned.

So, that is SmartWear. Now, let’s talk about smartphones.

Two years ago, we launched our first smartphone under the Sony brand.

And in 2013, we added to our product family, with premium flagships like: Xperia Z (zee), announced here at CES...the award-winning Xperia Tablet Z...and, Xperia Z Ultra, featuring the largest display in the world’s slimmest Full HD smartphone.

And of course, our newest flagship smartphone, Xperia Z1. With Z1, we are bringing the best of Sony, for the best of you.

We combined the best of Sony technology, companion products, services, and content into one ecosystem. And we delivered the best camera experience in a waterproof smartphone… with our market-leading imaging technologies, and unique Social Camera applications. Through the camera...we have redefined the smartphone.

But now, we’ve gone one step further. We’ve taken the power and performance of Xperia Z1 and we have made it smaller - without compromising on features.
So, in its global debut, I’m pleased to announce...Xperia Z1 Compact – all the power of this... (hold up Z1) in this (hold up Z1 Compact).

Xperia Z1 Compact has a sleek design with a stylish metal frame...a high-resolution display, and an amazing 20-megapixel camera experiences...exactly what you expect from a hero device.

It will be available in four colors – black and white, of course, but also two fun new colors: Pink...bold with a hint of sweetness. And Lime...for the brave and unpredictable among you.

And thanks to Sony’s long history of making compact products, without compromising features...the best of Sony can now fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. There’s now something in our premium product lineup for everyone.

There has never been a better time to buy an Xperia. But, we know that switching brands and operating systems can be a real pain. We all have collections of content and apps, and so on. So, we made the whole process very simple.

This, is Xperia Transfer. One app that transfers everything from your old phone… directly to your new Xperia. Phone-to-phone…easy, and hassle-free.

Now, you can enjoy your new Xperia in no time at all, no matter what the brand or OS of your old phone. There is nothing to hold you back anymore…you are free. Free to join the Xperia family. It is easier than ever to jump from your current phone.

Speaking of JUMP... let’s talk about Sony Mobile here in the US. Last year, we established our successful partnership with T-Mobile. By the way, I’m very glad that some of our friends from T-Mobile could join us here today. (gesture to T-Mobile members) Thank you all very much.

Now this year, we are taking the next step. Building on the global success of Xperia Z1, I am proud to announce, that with T-Mobile, we are bringing an exclusive new product to the US....Xperia Z1s.

Xperia Z1s has the world’s best camera in a waterproof smartphone...and other key features from Xperia Z1...and then some.
We’re also giving US consumers some new features and enhancements. First, we’ve increased the memory size to 32 gigabytes. Second, we are adding to our growing range of camera apps with our new Camera Defocus app, which you can see on the screen.

Third, I’m excited to announce that Xperia Z1s will be the first smartphone to have the new PlayStation App pre-installed. With this app, you can use your Xperia Z1s as a simple controller and second screen for your PlayStation 4, allowing you to explore a bit of the amazing world of PlayStation 4 on your Xperia.

And finally, every Xperia Z1s comes with an exclusive entertainment pack. You get six great movies to download for free...including Sony Picture’s latest blockbuster hit, Captain Philips, in its digital debut.

On top of that, everyone will get a free two-month trial of Music Unlimited, and a range of handpicked PlayStation Mobile games.

Earlier, Mike said that Sony’s theme for CES this year is...“Play”. So, we have one more surprise. Buy an Xperia Z1s...and the amazing new PS4...and we’ll give you $100 gift card that you can use on whatever you want.…but of course, I personally recommend you spend that $100 on some more great Sony products...or PlayStation games...

(Fasulo  returns to stage)

Fasulo: ...or accessories for your Xperia, right Kuni? So many Sony products to try, and so little time to play with them. So...I guess there’s just one question left...when is Xperia Z1S going to be available here in the U.S.?

Suzuki: I’m happy to announce that you can register for the Xperia Z1S from today and you can buy it online next Monday.  And available at T-Mobile stores nationwide beginning January 22.

Fasulo: Thanks, Kuni [Handshake. Kuni exits stage]

There you have it. An expanding world of 4K and 4K content, an industry wide hi-res audio initiative to deliver sound in ways you haven’t heard it for years, new digital imaging devices that continue to defy the laws of physics and a number of portable devices that you can wear, pocket or attach, no matter where you are or what you’re doing. The bottom line is we are continuing to redefine the parameters of the user experience, breaking down conventional limitations of what is expected and thinking about what is possible. We look at what you want to do and think of things you haven’t even dreamed of yet. All of this is powered by unique technology, content and services that only Sony can deliver.

We covered a lot but Kaz has even more in store for you. Be sure to catch his opening keynote at the Venetian at 9 a.m. tomorrow. In the meantime, I invite you to come play with us.

Explore our booth. Throughout the rest of the week you’ll be able to watch some soccer, listen to live music, play a little tennis, see some BMX riders show off their tricks… In essence, have fun. That’s what it’s all about.

Thanks you all once again for joining us and good night!

[Roll sizzle reel.]
